Diwali is celebrated every year on the Amavasya of Kartik month. Diwali is the biggest festival celebrated in India. Not only in India, but it is celebrated all around the world by millions of people.

Diwali is also known by the names ‘Deepawali’ and ‘Festival of Lights’. It is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

How to celebrate Diwali?

The festival of Diwali brings happiness all around and reminds us that good always wins over evil. Delicious dishes are made in the houses and shared with loved ones. Some the things to do during Diwali are:-

  • People wear new clothes during Diwali and clean their houses.
  • Gifts and sweets are bought for friends and family.
  • Ganesh and Laxmi worshipped on this day.
  • Houses are decorated with beautiful lighting which make the houses look amazing at night.
  • People of all age groups enjoy bursting crackers such as Anar, Phuljhadi, Rocket etc.
  • Diyas and candles are lighted and kept all around the house, which creates positive energy.
  • Beautiful and colorful rangoli is made.

How to perform puja in Diwali?

For puja, Diwali is made on the wall. Red cloth is spread on a stool and idols of Ganesh and Laxmi are kept on it. On another stool, red cloth is spread and is kept in the room for whole night. It is said that Laxmi ji would come and sit on it.

Kheel khilone are kept on a plate in front of idols. The coins of gold and silver are kept on a plate and kept in front of idols. Now, Diyas are worshipped and kept around the house. A big diya is lighted and is left lighted the whole night. Kajal is made using this diya. Now the arti of Ganesh Laxmi is done.
