Diwali is a five day festival. Day 2 of the 5 day festival is celebrated as Chhoti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi. On this day Lord Krishna killed Narkasur and saved people, saints and Gods from Narkasur’s tyranny.
On the day of Chhoti Diwali, Lord Hanuman’s birthday is also celebrated, that is why it is also called Hanuman Jayanti.
People also burst crackers on this day to celebrate the festival.
Rituals performed on Chhoti Diwali
On Chhoti Diwali we should bath after applying ubtan on body. In the evening, 5 diyas of sarso oil(mustard oil) are lighted. These diyas are offered with water, kumkum, mauli ,flowers, fruit, gur and dakshina. Now keep these diyas in different rooms of the house. ‘Kapur‘ is also lighted on this day.
