Govardhan Puja Story and Significance
On the day of Govardhan Puja we worship Govardhan Hill. Let us see Govardhan puja ka mahatva and kyu ki jati hai. Once maiya Yashoda and other Brijwasis were preparing different types of food and delicacies. Krishna asked his maiya Yashoda, why they were preparing all the food. At this Yashoda ji replied that they were cooking the food to offer it to god Indra. She further said that Indra gave rain to them and if they would not offer the food to Indra, he would get angry and stop the rain. Due to this there would be no food grown.
At this Krishna said that, Indra is not the one who gives us rain. There is only god and everyone should worship him. He also said that mother nature gives us everything. After listening to this Indra got angry and started heavy rain. The natives of Govardhan and around got worried and asked Lord Krishna for his help. Krishna lifted Govardhan parvat on his smallest finger and gave shelter to all the people, cow, birds, animals etc under the hill.
The rains continued for 7 days non stop. After 7 days Lord Indra realized that Krishna was not a normal child but he was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and he stopped the rain. That is why the Govardhan parvat is worshipped and perform Govardhan Puja.
