Lord Krishna was born in Dvapara Yuga as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated as the festival of Janmashtami among Hindus. Let us come to the story now:-
During Dvapara Yuga when the evil increased on earth, then Lord Indra along with other gods went to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu promised that he would take avatar on earth and end evil ruler Kansa and spread goodness around the world.
Devaki was the sister of Kansa. She was married to Vasudeva. Soon after marriage an Akashwani was made that the eighth child of Vasudeva and Devaki would kill Kansa. Kansa got scared and imprisoned Vasudeva and Devaki. After this Kansa started killing all the children born to Devaki.
Finally, Krishna was born as the eighth child of Devaki. On the night Krishna was born all the guards of the prison fell asleep magically. Then, Vasudeva was instructed to exchange Krishna with the girl child born in the house of his friend Nandraja in Gokul.
Vasudeva placed Krishna on a basket and started carrying him to Nandraja’s house. Vasudeva had to cross the Yamuna river to reach the Nandraja’s house. So, Vasudeva kept the basket on his head. Also, it was raining on the way. So to protect Lord Krishna from any discomfort, SheshNaag ji appeared from Yamuna and covered Lord Krishna.
On reaching Nandraja’s house, Vasudeva exchanged Krishna with the baby girl born to Nandraja and Yashoda. Vasudeva took back the baby girl to prison and kept her beside Devaki.
Now all the prison guards woke up and informed Kansa that Devaki has given birth to eighth child. When Kansa was about to kill the girl child, she transformed into Goddess Durga and warned him that his death has arrived in kingdom. After this Goddess Durga disappeared. Later Lord Krishna grew up in the Gokul at the house of Nandraja and Yashoda.
